Tip #1 -Download the app on your Android or iPhone device.
Instagram has a desktop version, but the features are very limited. You can check your account, comment and like other accounts, but you can’t upload photos directly. When first setting up your account, it will be private by default. You can keep it private until you add some pictures to your account and once you have your account set up the way you like, switch it over to public so people can check out your Instagram feed and decide to follow you.
Tip #2-Create your profile on Instagram
With Instagram, you can have a personal and/or a business profile. The business profile has more features than a personal account. Kristi Hines shares a great article on how to set up an Instagram business profile.
Within your bio profile, you can add a clickable link, which can be a call to action such as:
- Your website
- Join your newsletter
- Landing page
- Other social media platform
- Products/services sales page
Showcase the value of your profile to increase your followers. People are searching Instagram to find solutions to their problems, thus, include keywords in your bio so your profile can be found.
It’s important to post content that relates to your business so people can get to know what you are known for. However, try to follow the 80/20 rule with your posting strategy. This will help you to get more reach from your Instagram posts and help you to be more strategic, sharing your content across other social media platforms.
Tip #4 -Create a branded Instagram feed.
Create a branded style when building your brand on Instagram. Your brand style could be your color palette, your image design, your typography or even a very strategic layout of your pictures. This will help to achieve consistency in your posts, which strengthens your brand image.

As a beginner, you want to make sure that you post consistently on Instagram (at least once a day). Hashtags are the best way to attain search traffic on Instagram. Using hashtags help improve your visibility of your posts. To find some popular hashtags, you can research popular hashtags in your industry using a hashtag research tool, like hashtagify.
